Expansion Features - Horrific Visions
Expansion Features - Island Expeditions
Island Expeditions are a new type of timed scenario introduced in Battle for Azeroth in which you compete against the opposing faction to gather resources. After completing the scenario there's a chance to loot special reward items - including a rare chance of mounts. There's a PvP and non-PvP mode for these scenarios, but we're currently unsure whether both offer mount rewards. If it turns out to be just PvP, we'll reclassify these mounts as PvP only. For detailed information, see Wowhead's Island Expeditions Guide.
Expansion Features - Service Medals
Events - Timewalking
These mounts require no reputation or tricks to obtain - just an enormous bank account! The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur costs 5 million gold, but comes with a vendor and an auctioneer. The Palehide Direhorn costs 500 000 gold and has no special features, other than looking handsome. These mounts are available to Horde and Alliance players from vendors in Zuldazar and Tiragarde Sound.
Loot - Dungeon Boss Drops
A variety of interesting mounts drop from bosses in BfA dungeons, including a mummified raptor, an angry pollywog and a pirate parrot. So far these have only been found in Mythic difficulty, or as a reward in Challenge Modes. It's too early to be sure of their drop rates.
Challenger's Cache in The Underrot (CM)
Loot - Miscellaneous Scenario and Instance Drops
Loot - Raid Boss Drops
Loot - Random World or Zone Drops
These involve farming regular, hostile NPCs in BfA zones for a low chance of getting a specific mount. (The two equines were originally Horde only, but this was fixed.)
Loot - World Boss or Rare Drops
Some rare or special NPCs added in Battle for Azeroth have a chance of dropping a mount. Some of these use new models, others are previously-unavailable colour variants of older mounts. So far, most of the new ones have been found in the Arathi Highlands, which are the site of a new Warfront. See Wowhead's Warfronts in Battle for Azeroth.
A range of new mounts may be purchased from Battle for Azeroth factions after reaching Exalted. So far all have been aligned specifically with the Horde or the Alliance. The Horde-aligned mounts range from bloodswarmers to hyenas to pterrordaxes. The Alliance may purchase variously-decorated steeds.
Player / Racial Factions - Alliance Allied Races
After recruiting new Allied Race factions to the Alliance, you immediately unlock their faction mounts. So far only the Dark Iron Dwarf core hound is available, with the Kul Tiran horse coming in Patch 8.1.5.
Player / Racial Factions - Horde Allied Races
After recruiting new Allied Race factions to the Horde, you immediately unlock their faction mounts. So far only the Mag'har Direwolf is available, with the Zandalari Direhorn coming in Patch 8.1.5.
Player vs Player - Arena
Arena mounts are rewarded to top-ranking Arena teams at the end of each PvP season. In Battle for Azeroth these will be variously-hued proto-drakes. We expect there will be at least 7 seasons, but so far only the first three season's rewards have been set.
Player vs Player - Battle for Nazjatar
Player vs Player - Honor Level
One more horned steed has been added to the Honor Level (formerly Prestige) collection: the Prestigious Bloodforged Courser is the reward for reaching Honor Level 500.
Player vs Player - Miscellaneous Achievements
Player vs Player - Vicious Mounts - Rated PvP
The method of obtaining Vicious mounts has changed in Battle for Azeroth and Vicious mounts cannot (currently) be purchased with a Vicious Saddle. Instead, players must first reach the PvP rank of 'Combatant' during the relevant Season by reaching a rating of 1400 from competing in 2v2, 3v3, or 10v10 arenas and battlegrounds. They must then win a further 100 rated PvP matches during the season to receive the mount. Blizzard have announced that the mount will be purchasable by the traditional method (a Vicious Saddle) some time after the Season ends. There will be a new method of obtaining Vicious Saddles, which has not yet been revealed.
Player vs Player - World PvP Achievements
Achievements - Dungeon Keystone & Challenge Modes
Achievements - Dungeon Meta-Achievements
A black krolusk is the reward for the Mythic Dungeon meta-achievement in Battle for Azeroth: Glory of the Wartorn Hero.
Achievements - Exalted Reputations
A beautiful blue dreamrunner is the reward for achieving 100 Exalted reputations on a single character.
Achievements - Miscellaneous Scenario and Instance Achievements
Achievements - Mount Collections
Achievements have been added for collecting 350 and 400 mounts that are usable by a single character. The 350-mount reward is a handsome icy-blue version of the infernals added in Legion, andhe 400-mount reward is the stunning fel-green variant of the flametalon, which finally completes the set for that mount model!
Achievements - Quest Story Progression
Achievements - Raid Meta-Achievements
The Bloodgorged Crawg is the reward for completing the Uldir raid meta-achievement, Glory of the Uldir Raider. We expect more mounts to be added for later raid tiers.
Quests & Exploration - Ahead of the Curve
Quests & Exploration - Mount Quest Chains
One new mount-training quest chain has been added for Battle for Azeroth, in which you raise and train your own cute pterrordax hatchling. This chain seems to be Horde-only and we're unsure if the Alliance will get a mount training experience of their own.
Quests & Exploration - Special Activities
Quests & Exploration - Special Exploration
Quests & Exploration - World / Repeatable Quests
Quests & Exploration - Zone & Event Quest Chains
RETIRED! This pair of mounts was the reward for completing the Darnassus stage of the 'War of Thorns' Battle for Azeroth pre-expansion quest chains for Horde and/or Alliance. Players received both mounts for their account when they completed either the Horde or Alliance quest chain.
Professions / Crafted - Engineering
So far one new Engineer-crafted mount has been added - a sinister, goblin-headed copter. The mount doesn't require Engineering to use, and the item that teaches it is not bound, so it may be gifted or auctioned. The schematic that teaches it drops from Mogul Razdunk, the final boss in the dungeon 'The MOTHERLODE!!'. We aren't yet sure if it drops only in Mythic difficulty, but early reports have been from Mythic.
Professions / Crafted - Engineering & Blacksmithing
Professions / Crafted - Fishing
This teal green variant of the Darkwater Skate may be fished up in the open waters around Zandalar and Kul Tiras in Battle for Azeroth.
Player Classes - Paladin
After sharing the human paladins Warhorse for fourteen years, the dwarf paladins of Ironforge were finally given their own magnificent ram mount in Battle for Azeroth! The Dark Iron variant - the Darkforge Ram - will become available once you can unlock the Dark Iron Dwarf Allied Race.
Other Mounts - Not Implemented
The following mounts have appeared in the item and/or spell database but do not seem to be currently available. We're including them for interest and because they may still appear by the expansion launch. Some appeared during the BfA Beta test but were removed again, others don't seem to have been used at all - yet!
