Back in the Saddle

World of Warcraft Patch 3.0 is launching today for the US realms, and I believe tomorrow for the EU realms. So my time is up — I gotta get updated!

There are a lot of neat new mount-related things in Patch 3.0. The biggest is probably the new mount UI, which we had talked about previously a little bit. I want to get a short article written up on that, but regardless you are going to see a lot of people asking where their mounts went for the new few weeks. *grin*

We will also be seeing some new mounts with this patch! The most exciting (to me): the Albino Drake, a reward for the Leading the Cavalry achievement of collecting 50 mounts. We’ll also doubtless see some lucky BlizzCon attendees with their BlizzCon bear mounts.

Unfortunately we are also saying goodbye to the chance to get the Amani War Bear from Zul’Aman. If you have one you get to keep it, but if you don’t have one yet I am afraid you’re out of luck.

Now I’m going to ask for your help. I’ve been behind on updating this site, so I need to get that fixed ASAP. In addition to the Patch 3.0 changes, I’ve also missed … let’s see … adding the Zhevra and the Brewfest Mounts, right? What else am I forgetting? What other mounts (besides those I mentioned above) are included in Patch 3.0 that I need to get added?

Mystery Mounts

I was looking for information on a rumored Golden Sabercat mount for a reader when I ran across an old post on the WoW Customer Service Forum by Blizzard Poster Batta. This post is from September of 2006 and it’s in response to questions concerning the big Riding skill change in Patch 1.12. The post lists what is presumably all the mounts at the time — several of which I have never heard of. Even more interesting is a full quote of Batta’s post later in the thread which seems to show that another bunch of mounts were edited out of the list at some point.

Unknown mounts in Batta’s list:

  • Purple Mechanostrider
  • Red & Blue Mechanostrider
  • Fluorescent Green Mechanostrider

Unknown mounts presumably edited out of Batta’s list:

  • Reins of the Tawny Sabercat
  • Reins of the Golden Sabercat
  • Reins of the Primal Leopard
  • Reins of the Swift Dawnsaber

My guess is that Batta used a list of raw data to make the list, rather than a list of items actually in the game — and that somewhere in that massive thread someone asked about how to get the unknown sabercats. Batta realized that you can’t get them and removed them from the list. But apparently not the mechanostriders …

However, this is entirely a guess. If you have any information on any of these mounts, I’d love to hear about it!

Finally, while we are on the topic of mystery mounts, a reader has asked me if I can identify the obsidian raptor mount in an old Screenshot of the Day from Blizzard’s gallery of submitted screenshots. But alas, I cannot — can you?
