WoW Insider Mount Guide

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Today WoW Insider posted a handy little guide to WoW mounts that they’ve put together.

Of course, I like our own Warcraft Mounts better — what with the advanced search capabilities and all — but of course I would. *grin* Still, if you are looking for in-game screenshots of the mounts with a rider, check out their gallery.

PTR 2.4.2: Potential New Mounts

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Also hidden in the game files of Patch 2.4.2 (but not mentioned in the patch notes): two new mounts!

Well, maybe. Keep in mind that just because a spell shows up in the game files doesn’t mean that it’s going to be in the game. And even if it is, it might not be something you can get your hands on!

But so long as you are keeping that in mind, let’s go ahead and get excited anyway. *grin*

Both MMO Champion and World of Raids are reporting spells and models for the following in Patch 2.4.2:

  • Swift Zebra: Summons and dismisses a rideable Swift Zebra. This is a very fast mount. (Ed. - Shouldn’t that be Zhevra?)
  • Headless Horseman’s Mount: Summons and dismisses a rideable Headless Horseman’s Mount.

The Headless Horseman’s Mount has two other associated spells: ‘Headless Horseman’s Mount, Ground’ and ‘Use Headless Horseman’s Reins’. All together this would seem to me to indicate some sort of holiday event, but it’s a bit early for Halloween. I guess we’ll see!

I can’t seem to get my Model Viewer to show me these, so while I keep bashing on it you should head on over to World of Raids and check out their model screenshots of the Swift Zebra and the Headless Horseman’s Mount.

PTR 2.4.2: Mount Enchantments

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Blizzard posted the Test Realm Patch Notes for Patch 2.4.2 today, including this little note of interest to compulsive mount-collectors:

  • Items that enchant other items no longer have tradeskill requirements (Mithril Spurs, Shield Spikes, Weapon Chains, etc.).

That will make Mithril Spurs a little easier to apply!

In addition, although the patch notes do not mention it, it appears that many mount speed increasing trinkets are becoming enchantments instead. For example, the description of Carrot on a Stick now reads:

Binds when picked up
Use: Permanently enchant a mount to increase its mounted speed by 3%. You may only enchant mounts in your own inventory, and enchanting your mount will cause it to become soulbound. Single use.

Other mount speed trinkets seem to have changed similarly. I’m working on a page for the site with these items, but in the meantime both MMO Champion and World of Raids have some screenshots of the adjusted items.
